Crailing (kr¯a-lin) n. village a few miles east of Jedburgh, and also the name of the surrounding parish. The more recent parish contains the ancient parishes of Crailing, Nisbet and Spittal; Crailing and Nisbet were united in 1606, and there is an existing communion token labelled ‘C.N.K.’ from 1699. here were once 2 mediæval hospitals here, at Cralining Spittal (near Monteviot) and at Spittal (in the extreme north).
